Artec Micro Automated Desktop 3D Scanner Launched

Artec 3D, recently announced the Artec Micro, an automated, metrology-grade desktop 3D scanner, to its portfolio of 3D scanning solutions. Equipped with twin cameras, Artec Micro is the company’s most accurate 3D scanner to-date.

Complete with blue LED lights that are synchronized with the scanner’s dual-axis rotation system, Artec Micro creates the perfect digital copy using minimal frames. With a single click, this fully-automated, industrial scanner springs to life to create a high-resolution color 3D scan that boasts an incredible point accuracy of up to 10 microns (0.0004 inches), a tenth the size of a single grain of table salt.

Users of all skill levels can learn to operate the technology quickly, and initiating a scan takes only a few easy steps. Intuitive and easy-to-use, Artec Micro requires minimal training, allowing almost anyone to place an object on the scanning plate and begin scanning immediately. After an object is placed on the circular scanning platform, the operator simply chooses from a variety of smart scanning paths and clicks to begin. The scanning process can be viewed in real-time within Artec Studio.

The Artec Micro scan data is processed in the industry acclaimed Artec Studio, following the same workflow as Artec’s handheld scanners. Afterwards, the final model can be exported to popular CAD/CAM software, including SOLIDWORKSControl X, PolyWorks Inspector and Design X.

“Artec Micro embodies the same combination of accuracy and unparalleled ease-of-use that all of our scanners have become synonymous with,” said Artyom Yukhin, president and CEO of Artec 3D. “This latest addition to the Artec family of scanners brings Artec into the metrology market and fills an important niche for creating extremely accurate digital reproductions of small and tiny parts. In fact, at a point of accuracy of 10 microns, Artec Micro is capturing details that are four times smaller than what is visible with the average human eye. Now users can 3D scan almost any object with Artec 3D’s line of five scanners; from a tiny mechanical part with Artec Micro to a jumbo jet with Artec Ray.”

With Artec Micro’s high accuracy, the scanner is a great tool for geometric and tolerance testing for quality inspection applications. Artec Micro can also be used for precision mechanics and reverse engineering applications. Whether the intent is to fit legacy parts together or recreate an existing object, this desktop scanner can accelerate the design, prototype, and production cycle by weeks.

The ability to quickly and easily scan is also especially useful for non-engineering applications, where the end-user might not be an expert in handling professional-grade equipment. The versatility of Artec Micro can benefit an unlimited number of industries, including jewelry design, cultural heritage preservation, and dentistry, to name a few.
